Materials Characterization (0W69)
The "Materials" teaching laboratory is designed for experiential learning in materials science: metallurgy, heat treatments, and mechanical characterization tests on various materials.
The various resources available enable the following:
- Metallurgical studies: furnaces (rapid heating), a Jominy testing device, hardness and microhardness testers, hands-on labs for diffusion analysis (Cu-Zn), optical microscopy equipment paired with dedicated software, etc.
- Mechanical characterization studies: tensile testing machine, rotational bending fatigue testing machine, Charpy impact tester.
Development of Composite Materials (0W73)
The "Composites" teaching laboratory enables the fabrication of organic-matrix composite parts using various processes (including prepreg lamination and contact molding). The goal is to familiarize students with these materials, which are increasingly used in industry, as well as to manufacture test specimens and more complex parts for
characterization and validation testing.
The equipment available in the lab includes:
- a heated-platen press for manufacturing structural-grade prepreg sheets;
- an oven for curing contact-molded parts;
- a vacuum system for composite parts;
- a fume hood and a fume extraction table for the safe handling of polyester resins.
