What stands out to me from my time in the Mechanical Engineering DER program: the excellence of the scientific education, the outstanding support provided to students, and the overall atmosphere among the students and faculty.

Jérémie PILLON

What motivated you to enroll at ENS Paris-Saclay, and in the Mechanical Engineering DER program in particular?

The school's prestige, my passion for research, and the guidance of my CPGE professors (all graduates of the École Normale Supérieure)

What was your experience like in the Mechanical Engineering DER program?

You completed the FeSup Master 2 program—what motivated you to do so?

I was able to thoroughly review the knowledge I had acquired during my CPGE and L3/M1 years, as part of the traditional teacher-training program. This allowed me to solidify my foundational knowledge and pass the agrégation exam, where I ranked 23rd

What did this program offer you?

It allowed me to gain knowledge and expertise in pedagogy and to take a step back and reflect on a number of scientific skills.

You went on to write a dissertation—what were the topic and objective of your dissertation?

The topic: Thermomechanics of optical fiber coils for gyrometers.

Optical fiber coils are the sensitive components of optical fiber gyrometers, which are used to measure rotational speeds. When these sensitive components are heated, they deform, causing a bias in the rotational measurement. To better understand the phenomena involved, the objective of this thesis was to propose a thermomechanical model of optical fiber coils, which are anisotropic composite structures.

You are currently an R&D Engineer at a private company. How has your education helped you approach your current responsibilities with confidence?

Excellence in education across several fields: mechanics, and especially optics, mathematics, and physics in general.
