His Career

What motivated you to enroll at ENS Paris-Saclay, and in the Mechanical Engineering DER program in particular?

I’m passionate about science; I love understanding how things work and, above all, making science accessible to others. A friend who had been admitted to ENS Paris-Saclay a year before me, along with my CPGE teachers, encouraged me to apply to ENS Paris-Saclay based on my academic record. I applied to the DER in Mechanical Engineering because I wanted to study a multidisciplinary field that combines engineering, mathematics, and applied physics.

You chose to pursue an M2 FeSup degree—what motivated you to make that choice?

I took this program before continuing on to a Master’s in Research because I’m convinced that teaching and research are two activities that feed into one another, and above all, I met many teachers and-researchers who were particularly dedicated and who inspired me to share my knowledge. So I was very motivated to train for a career in higher education. I took the agrégation exam in Industrial Engineering Sciences, with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering, in 2019, where I ranked 9th.

You wrote a thesis after completing your M2 FeSup; what is it about?

The title of my thesis is: “Modeling fluid injection effects in dynamic fault rupture using Fast Boundary Element Methods.” It was funded by a specific École Normale Supérieure doctoral contract: CDSN.

I worked on modeling seismic instabilities and the influence of fluids on the triggering of slippage along a fault between two blocks of the Earth’s crust, a major challenge in geosciences for understanding the complex mechanical processes at work in earthquakes, whether they are of natural origin or induced by human activity (drilling, geothermal energy, etc.)

I studied the ability of fast boundary element methods to effectively model interactions at the block interface, with the goal of developing a robust multiphysics solver capable of simulating large-scale seismic processes.

His duties

In your opinion, how has your education helped you approach your current responsibilities with confidence?

I am an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Centrale Lyon.

On a day-to-day basis, my education provides me with solid mechanical engineering skills that enable me to teach effectively. The experience I gained during my studies also allows me to interact with a wide range of people—including students and researchers—and to understand how each person works, which helps me grow as a teacher.
